With the series leveled at 1-1 both the teams, India and England entered the third Test match in Rajkot with a hope of taking an advantage in the series. After winning the toss in the third Test match and electing to bat first. The Indian team did not have the best of starts as they were restricted to 33/3 in the ninth over of the game. However, it was then India captain, Rohit Sharma who displayed his brilliant batting skill by stabilizing the struggling Indian batting lineup alongside Ravindra Jadeja.

The India skipper appeared to have difficulty facing James Anderson but took advantage of the inexperienced English spinners. Together, they built a partnership of 156 runs before Rohit Sharma reached his 11th Test century. This marked his first century in red-ball cricket since the West Indies tour in 2023, where he scored 103 at Windsor Park, Roseau. Rohit achieved this milestone in 157 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes.

Apart from his batting credit should also be given to his captaincy as in a tactical decision, Jadeja was elevated in the batting order to uphold a right-left combination, contributing a finely crafted half-century to the partnership. It took him 97 balls to achieve this feat along with five fours. This decision was also backed up by the notion that the Indian middle order is relatively young with the inclusion of debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel.

Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this century from Hitman;

India played two debutants in the third Test match

In the third Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan received their international caps. With key players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer unavailable due to various reasons, India had to make some necessary changes to the side as well.

The most recent instance of two Indian players making their debut in a home Test occurred on February 9, 2023, during India's series against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. KS Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav were the 304th and 305th Indians to don the whites and represent India in Test cricket.
