Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star AB de Villiers on Saturday revealed the reason behind Virat Kohli's absence from the first two Tests against England. Speculations were rife that Kohli and Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child after the former India captain decided to take a sudden break from the ongoing five-match home series.

The legendary South African cricketer, who shares a great rapport with Kohli, checked in on his former colleague and shared a crucial update for fans on social media. De Villiers said that the Indian batting stalwart is doing fine and has been spending quality time with his family. He also confirmed the rumors that Kohli and his wife Anushka are gearing up to welcome their second child.

“All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well,” de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

“So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?’. He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well'," he added.

He has made absolutely right decision: De Villiers backs Kohli's decision to be with his family

While confirming the big news, de Villiers also lauded Kohli's gesture to be with his family at such a crucial time. The former Proteas skipper said that family is important to the Indian superstar and he cannot be judged for the decision.

“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision,” de Villiers added.

Before the series opener against England in Hyderabad, the Indian Cricket Board had revealed that Kohli had taken a break from the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The middle-order batter's absence did hurt the team as the Men in Blue lost the match by 28 runs. He is expected to return for the third Test, which will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot from February 15.
