Rohit Sharma was literally a monster at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, January 17. The Indian skipper was quiet in the first two matches of the T20I series against Afghanistan, but he unleashed his beast mode in the final game when the Indian top order crumbled. The veteran opener scored an unbeaten 121 off 69 balls, featuring 11 fours and 8 sixes.

On the back of his sensational hundred and Rinku Singh's brilliant 69* off 39 balls, India posted a massive total of 212/4 after struggling at 22/4 in the powerplay. Afghanistan's top three scored half-centuries and managed to level the total, pushing the game into a Super Over. The encounter became the first in the history of men's T20Is to have a double Super Over, with Rohit becoming the first batter to bat three times in a 20-over match.

The 36-year-old broke several big records on his way to recording India's fourth-highest individual score in T20Is. In this article, let's take a look at the top 5 records broken by Rohit in the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan.

The carnage at Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed 8 thunderous sixes from Rohit's bat. This helped the Hitman surpass former England captain Eoin Morgan in terms of the most sixes as a captain in the shortest format. Rohit hit 90 sixes in 54 innings while Morgan took 65 innings to smash 86 sixes. The next on the list is former Australia captain Aaron Finch - 82 sixes in 76 matches.

4. Oldest Indian to score a T20I hundred

Rohit became the oldest Indian and the sixth-oldest overall to score a T20I hundred. Until Wednesday, the record was held by Virat Kohli when he hit a maiden T20 century (122*) against Afghanistan in the 2022 T20 Asia Cup at 33 years and 307 days old.

3. Most runs as captain in T20Is

Rohit's blistering knock of 121 off 69 deliveries took his runs tally as captain to 1,648 runs (54 games). He surpassed batting maestro Virat Kohli's 1,570 runs (50 games). Legendary skipper MS Dhoni is third on the list with 1112 runs from 72 matches. Notably, Rohit has the worst average (37.06) of the trio but has the best strike rate (148.73).

2. Highest fifth-wicket partnership in a T20I

In their rescue operation, Rohit and Rinku together accumulated 190 runs. It was the highest-ever partnership for the fifth wicket in the history of T20Is. The previous best was 145 by Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee for Nepal against Hong Kong at the Asian Games last year. Notably, it was also the highest partnership for any wicket for India, surpassing Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda's 176 for the second wicket against Ireland in 2022.

1. Most hundreds in T20Is

Rohit became the first cricketer on the planet to score five T20I tons. His compatriot Suryakumar Yadav and Australia's Glenn Maxwell are behind him with four hundreds. The right-hander's total centuries in international cricket has gone up to 47.
