Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been two of the most famous names in the history of football. The two players have dominated the footballing landscape for the last two decades.  After two more than successful decades in European Football, the two Icons of the game are now setting the field on fire.

Lionel Messi last played in Europe for Paris Saint Germain, while Ronaldo played for Manchester United. While Ronaldo has moved to the Middle East and is setting the Saudi Arabian league on fire, Lionel Messi has taken a different path. Here we take a closer look at the top five footballers who have joined Major League Soccer in 2023.

The 2022 Football World Cup-winning skipper was a huge acquisition for David Beckham and his Inter Miami side. The 36-year-old joined Inter Miami FC amidst much fanfare after his stint with PSG ended. Lionel Messi has played 6 games so far in the MLS and scored just one goal.

Sergio Busquests – Spain- Inter Miami FC

The former Barcelona great called time on his European Sojourn just a few months ago. It did not take the best defensive midfielder to join his former FC Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami FC. Busquets has already played 11 games for his new side and become one of the main players in the side.

Jordi Alba – Spain- Inter Miami FC

It seems the train of former FC Barcelona players to the South Beach is set to continue. Jordi Alba who was a veteran of 313 games for the Barcelona side also has moved to the MLS. The 34-year-old surprised many fans by deciding to move to the USA when he was at the top of his game in the European Football circuit. 

Luis Suarez – Uruguay – Inter Miami FC

The Inter Miami FC fans were given huge news when it was announced that Luis Suarez is the newest name on the roster. The former Uruguay striker becomes the latest big name to play in the MLS. This move from Gremio also means that the 36-year-old will join his former FC Barcelona teammates in Miami.

Teemu Pukki – Finland – Minnesota United FC

The 33-year-old striker from Finland is still at the top of his game and is considered one of the best Finn players. After spending 5 years at Norwich City scoring 87 goals from 198 games, Pukki has joined Minnesota United. In the 14 games for his new side, Pukki has already made an amazing impact scoring 10 goals.
