Arsenal are currently busy in the race to win the Premier League. However, in the last three matches, they managed only three draws. As a result, Arsenal are in the top position in the league with 75 points from 32 games. On 22 April 2023, the Gunners were in action against the 20th-placed Southampton at their home, Emirates.

But, the Saints surprised everyone as they took a lead of 3-1 in the first half. But, finally, Arsenal managed to finish the game with a 3-3 scoreline. However, now a report has come out that they are the front-runner to sign the West Ham and star England midfielder Declan Rice in an £83m offer.

“I want to play in the Champions League.” - Declan Rice

According to some close sources to the development, Arsenal are in the pole position to sign Rice for the next season. Chelsea have been the favourites for a long time. But, now, due to financial limitations, they might find it tough now. They have already spent a lot under new owner Todd Boehly. Newcastle were another club that showed interest in this midfielder. But, as of now, both Chelsea and Newcastle are not willing to meet the valuation of West Ham. Earlier, Declan Rice revealed his desire to play in the Champions League.

In December 2022 while on international duty with the Three Lions, Rice said: 100 percent I want to play in the Champions League. For the last two or three years I’ve been saying that. I’ve been playing consistently well for my club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing. I see my friends here, who are playing Champions League and for big trophies. You only get one career and at the end, you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in. I really want to do that.” Recently, Sky Sports reported that Rice has declined an eight-year deal worth £ 83 million at West Ham. So, some fears are there that Rice can leave the club by running down his current contract for a hefty fee or for free as the Hammers are open to selling him.
