'Chak de India' - Fans ecstatic as India start their campaign in Hockey World Cup 2023 with a convincing win against Spain

Indian Hockey team under the captaincy of star defender Harmanpreet Singh locked horns with Spain in their tournament opener of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023. Both teams played in Odisha’s city of Raurkela on Friday, the 13th of January. Notably, India and Spain took on each other in the last match of day 1 of the 15th edition of the tournament.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the complete action of the first match between India and Spain on day 1 of the 2o23 edition of the Hockey World Cup. The men in blue dominated the match from the first quarter and successfully finished across the winning line at the time of last whistle.

The ardent hockey fans were also ecstatic after India’s convincing win against Spain in their tournament opener. They took to Twitter to lavish praises on the young Indian team under the leadership of Harmanpreet.

The first success for India came in the 12th minute of the first quarter when the senior defender Amit Rohidas converted a penalty into a successful goal. India maintained this lead till the second half of the second quarter of the match.

It was the 26th minute of the match when the 24-year-old young mid-fielder Hardik Singh came up with a stunning field goal and increased India’s lead from 1-0 to 2-0. Although, the hosts also faced a blow in the second quarter when the referee showed a green card to senior midfielder Akashdeep Singh.

However, India maintained their lead of 2-0 unassailable till the time of the last whistle in the match and started their campaign with a thumping win in the tournament.

Now, Harmanpreet’s men will take on England in their second match on Sunday, the 15th of January in Rourkela.
