Pakistan are currently busy playing the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. However, they managed to win the first match and now the second match will kick off on 24 July 2023 in Colombo. So, the Men in Green will look for another win to clean sweep the home team while the Lankans will look for a win to avoid a series loss.

But, ahead of that clash, reports have come out that the former Pakistan captain, Mohammad Hafeez is most likely to be the new chief selector. The decision might get implemented after the completion of Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka. Listening to such reports, fans shared their views on social media.

Mohammad Hafeez played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan

According to reports, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC) Zaka Ashraf had already shown favour towards Hafeez to make him the new chief selector.

A close source to the development, while speaking to PTI, said: "Zaka met with former captain, Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. Rashid was not keen on the job but Hafeez (has) expressed his availability for the job. Rashid was more interested in working on anti-corruption issues. Hafeez who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20Is for Pakistan before retiring last year, made it clear that he would like the challenge of working as the chief selector".

"But with the previous CMC dissolved, technically Haroon Rasheed is no longer chairperson of the selection committee. It is unlikely the entire selection committee will be changed because of the heavy schedule of the Pakistan team after the Sri Lanka tour as Afghanistan have also confirmed a ODI series in Sri Lanka in August before the Asia Cup. Naveed Akram Cheema, who has remained manager in the past, is a strong candidate to become team manager soon in place of Rehan ul Haq," he further added.
