Chahal revealed that dealing with personal turmoil, constant scrutiny, and online speculation took a heavy toll. He struggled with anxiety, insomnia, and even suicidal thoughts.

I got anxiety attacks; I was in depression. I had suicidal thoughts. I watched so many things about myself on social media. I wanted a break from cricket. I started shivering due to anxiety and sweating despite the AC being on,” he shared on a podcast with Raj Shamani.

He admitted that the stress left him mentally drained and unable to focus on cricket. He even requested a break from domestic cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–2025 to focus on his well-being.

Speaking about what led to the breakdown of the marriage, Chahal said both he and Dhanashree were deeply committed to their respective careers, leaving little time for each other.

It was going on for a long while. We decided we do not want to show the people. Who would know if it did not happen? Maybe it will become a different scenario. We were like, until we reach a point of no return, we are not going to say anything; we will be like a normal couple on social media,” he said.

He added that successful relationships need compromise and emotional availability, which became increasingly difficult due to their clashing personalities and ambitions.

A relationship is like a compromise. If one gets angry, the other has to listen. Sometimes the nature of two people does not match. This was going on for 1-2 years... You are working for something for 18-20 years; you cannot leave it for a relationship,” he stated.

Addressing the allegations made against him, Chahal said, “I think when my divorce happened, people alleged I was a cheater. I have never cheated in my life... I do not demand; I always give... When people don't know anything, but they keep blaming me, so you start thinking [otherwise].”
