Bumrah missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury, but he returned to the national team after rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He was named in the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa ahead of the Australian cricket extravaganza, which begins on October 16.

The pacer, however, played in the series against Australia before being ruled out of the T20Is against South Africa at the last minute. Since the news broke, several fans have taken to social media to criticise the cricketer for being available for his franchise while missing out on national duties.

Bumrah, on the other hand, took a subtle jab at the critics in a cryptic Instagram post. On Wednesday evening, the pacer posted an Instagram photo with a Winston Churchill quote. "You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks," read his story.

Bumrah left a message for fans the day after it was confirmed that he would not be participating in the World Cup, expressing his disappointment at the missed opportunity. "I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care, and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia," Bumrah had tweeted.

India has not announced a replacement for the star pacer yet, but Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar have emerged as the top contenders. Mohammed Siraj also is a contender to replace Bumrah. India begins their World Cup campaign on the 23rd of October against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
