You can’t be leading when you are batting at No. 7: Gautam Gambhir not happy with MS Dhoni’s batting position

Dhoni came in to bat at No 7 against Delhi Capitals

There is no denying the fact that MS Dhoni is not the same he used to be in terms of batting. Still, with all his experience and the ability to read the game makes him a valuable asset for the Chennai Super Kings. However, the former Indian cricketer has often been criticized for batting too low. In CSK’s last game against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni came in to bat at 7. At that position, you need someone who can play at a much higher strike rate. Dhoni instead, can bat up the order and anchor the innings.

Pointing out the same, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has called for MS Dhoni’s promotion in the batting order. Gambhir wants Dhoni to bat higher and lead from the front.

“MS Dhoni should be batting higher, that’s what matters because ultimately people should start leading from the front. We keep mentioning this thing that a leader needs to lead from the front. You can’t be leading, when you’re batting at No.7. Yes, there are issues in their bowling line up. Plus, he is not the MS Dhoni, which he used to be probably four or five years back, where he could just come in and start taking on the bowlers from the word go. For me, I think he needs to bat at number four/ five. Nothing below that,” Gambhir said at Star Sports show ‘Cricket LIVE’.

Batting down the order, MS Dhoni failed to finish matches in the 2020 season of the IPL as Chennai bowed out of the tournament from the group stages itself. Chennai will take on Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today. In their tournament opener, they failed to defend a strong total of 189.
