Indian team under the coaching of Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli’s captaincy had a miserable outing in the T20 World Cup 2021 which was played in the UAE. They lost their big matches against the arch-rivals Pakistan followed by a defeat against New Zealand. The men in blue couldn't reach the knock-out round of the tournament.

Many cricket experts and even fans went on to criticize the playing manner of the Indian batters in the crucial matches during the tournament. Later on, the top management decided to change the captain and coach after the World Cup. Senior batter Rohit Sharma and former legendary skipper Rahul Dravid took over the respective responsibilities for the team.

They both have given a free-hand approach to the batter to play their natural cricket without any pressure and fear in their minds. Especially, in the shortest format of the game, Rahul and Rohit came up with some shocking changes that actually seemed to work for the Indian side.

But Ravi Shastri has something else to say and he thinks that the success of the current Indian side is not because of the new coach and captain.

Even when I was coach, we discussed we were a bit timid at the top - Ravi Shastri

He talked about the difference between his coaching tenure to that of the current one of Rahul Dravid. Shastri also mentioned about the lack of approach in the top and middle order of the team.

“They should not change the approach (they have shown of late). Even when I was coach, we discussed we were a bit timid at the top considering the players we had down the order,” said Shastri during a press conference at Star Sports.

"It is the right approach. You will lose a few games in between but if you start winning with this approach you can take that confidence in big games and use the same tactics. Even the seniors within the team can opt for this approach as they have enough experience and also enjoy the depth in the middle order with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja available,” he added later in his statement.
