Yograj Singh lashes out on PBKS skipper, Shreyas Iyer over his dismissal in IPL 2025 Final against RCB

Punjab Kings’ wait for their maiden IPL title continues as they suffered a six-run loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final. After playing the final in 2014, it was their first time in the final in 11 years, but they failed to win it under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.

As a captain, Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL title in 2024 and then guided PBKS to the final, but unfortunately, failed to cross the finish line this time around. As a batter also, Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 innings. But in the final, when PBKS had to chase 191 runs, Iyer failed to make any significant contribution, scoring only one run off two balls.

RCB’s Romario Shepherd got the wicket with a simple catch for Jitesh Sharma behind the stumps. Iyer went for a cut, but all he managed was a thick edge to the keeper. That mode of dismissal of the PBKS skipper did not go well with former India cricketer Yograj Singh.

In a conversation on ANI, he called that dismissal a ‘criminal offence’. He said: "The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this is that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that."

During the post-match presentation, Iyer also shared where they went wrong, saying: "Dejected, but the way we came up to the occasion... A lot of credit goes to the management and each and every player. Considering the last game we played here, I felt 200 was par personally. They bowled excellently. Krunal was phenomenal, used his experience, that was the turning point.”

“Proud of each individual in our team, a lot of youngsters played their first season. Their fearlessness was phenomenal. Job is still half done, we have to win it next year. The way we turned up to every game was positive, they've gained a lot of experience and we can build on that next year," he concluded.
