Former Indian pacer and cricket analyst Yograj Singh has opened up on the recent controversy in the India vs Pakistan Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign on Sunday, September 21, in Dubai.
Speaking to ANI, Yograj asserted that Indian opening batters Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill were simply focused on their game and didn’t provoke anyone. However, he added that Pakistan pacers Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi were the first to start the verbal attack.
“I will always be with my country. I am a citizen of my country. If anyone speaks against my country, I will not tolerate it... But, as far as the players are concerned, they should be respected. If your country doesn't respect us, how will the outsiders respect us?” Yograj Singh told ANI.
“Both the players were playing. They were not saying anything to anyone. So, the players (Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf) went and started abusing them. Neither Abhishek said anything, nor Shubhman. Then what is the point of this? This is not frustration; what is it?” he added.
Moving into the details of the Super Four clash between India and Pakistan, the latter batted first and posted a good-looking total of 171/5 in 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan continued his good form, scoring 58 runs in 45 balls.
In response, India went on to chase down the target in 18.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma (74), Shubman Gill (47), and Tilak Varma (30*) were exceptional in the chase. Interestingly, this was the second consecutive win over Pakistan for India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
While India is unbeaten in the ongoing campaign with six wins in as many games, Pakistan suffered two losses and bagged four victories, moving into the grand finale on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai.
