On 7 May 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. In the reverse fixture, GT defeated LSG. Hence, they were looking to double over LSG in front of the home crowd. Speaking of the match, it was quite an emotional moment for the Pandya brothers.

Krunal Pandya was the skipper for LSG while Hardik Pandya was the skipper for GT. Krunal won the toss and opted to bowl first. He said: "We will bowl first. It's a dream come true for us, leading our respective sides. Overall the wicket will play the same. We have a good batting side, and we fancy our chance to chase down the total. We have played good cricket, and we stand at a good stage in the points table. de Kock is in, Naveen misses out."

While Hardik said: “We would have batted. I got what I wanted. It's an emotional day, our father would have been proud. This is something happening for the first time, family is proud. Then, for GT, Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha came out to bat. They smashed all LSG bowlers and stitched a partnership of 142 runs in 12.1 overs for the first wicket. Wriddhiman Saha scored 81 runs off 43 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes. Gill also scored 94* runs off 51 balls as GT scored 227 runs for two wickets in 20 overs. But, when LSG came out to bat, a funny incident happened with the GT wicketkeeper. He came up to the field while wearing his trousers the other way around. However, after two overs, the physios came out and after a talk with the umpires, Saha left the field. In place of him, Vijay Shankar came out to do wicketkeeping.
