The stage was set at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala on 17 May 2023 as Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL. Before this clash, PBKS were in the eighth position with 12 points in 12 games. While DC were in the last position with only eight points in 12 games.

PBKS were looking for a win to keep themselves alive in the race for the playoffs. Speaking of the match, Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and opted to field first. For DC, Prithvi Shaw made a comeback in the playing XI after missing some matches. For the first wicket, they scored 94 runs in 10.2 overs.

PBKS suffered a 15-run loss against DC

Prithvi Shaw scored 54 runs off 38 balls, including seven fours and one six. Then, Warner scored 46 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and two sixes. After that, Shaw and Rilee Rossouw managed a 54-run partnership for the second wicket. Rossouw smashed 82* runs off 37 balls, including six fours and six sixes. Phil Salt also played an impactful cameo as he scored 26* runs off 14 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Thus, DC scored 213 runs for two wickets in 20 overs. For PBKS, Sam Curran grabbed two wickets for 36 runs in four overs.

For the chase, Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh came out to open the innings. But, the PBKS skipper scored a golden duck only. After that, Prabhsimran and Atharva Taide stitched a 50-run partnership for the second wicket. Prabhsimran scored 22 runs off 19 balls and Taide got retired out on 55 runs off 42 balls, including five fours and two sixes. After that, both Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan got out cheaply. But, Sam Curran scored 11 runs off five balls. In the last over, they needed 33 runs. But, Livingstone fought lonely and got out on the last ball of the innings as he scored 94 runs off 48 balls, including five fours and nine sixes. Finally, PBKS scored 198 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Thus, DC won the match by 15 runs.
