The stage was set in Guwahati on 5 April 2023 as Rajasthan Royals took on Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Both teams won their respective season openers and managed a winning start to their campaign. So, Rajasthan and Punjab were looking to continue their momentum in this clash.

Speaking of the match, Sanju Samson won the toss and asked Punjab to bat first. For Punjab Kings, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh came out to bat. The opening duo gave a blistering start as they reached 50 runs in just 4.2 overs. The first wicket finally fell on 90 runs in 9.4 overs.

Punjab Kings registered their second win of IPL 2023

Prabhsimran Singh scored 60 runs off 34 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Along with him, Shikhar Dhawan scored 86* runs off 56 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Then, other batters came up with some small contributions as Punjab Kings scored 197 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. For Rajasthan Royals, Jason Holder picked up two wickets for 29 runs in four overs. Along with him, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed one wicket each. Then, for the chase, Rajasthan came up with a surprising move.

They sent Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ashwin to open the innings. But, the move did not work as Ashwin scored a four-ball duck. Jaiswal also failed cheaply as he scored just 11 runs. After that, Jos Buttler scored 19 runs while the skipper, Sanju Samson scored 42 runs off 25 balls, including five fours and one six. Then, Riyan Parag also got out after a quickfire 20-run knock from 12 balls, including two sixes and one four. After that, Dhruv Jurel scored 32* runs off 15 balls and Shimron Hetmyer scored 36 runs off 18 balls. But, they fell short by five runs and Punjab registered their second win of the season. For Punjab Kings, Nathan Ellis picked up four wickets for 30 runs in four overs. Along with him, Arshdeep Singh took two wickets.
