On 17 August 2023, the stage was set for an enthralling battle between B-Love Kandy (BLK) and Jaffna Kings (JK) in the eliminator of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) in Colombo. In the group stage, BLK finished in the third spot with eight wickets in eight games while JK finished at the fourth spot with six points in eight games.

Speaking of the match, JK skipper, Thisara Perera won the toss and asked BLK to bat first. While batting first, they scored 188 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, JK got bundled out for 127 runs and BLK won the game by 61 runs. Mohammad Haris scored 79 runs off 49 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Seeing such a blistering knock, fans went crazy and shared their views on social media.

During the post-match presentation, the winning skipper, Wanindu Hasaranga said: "We all know Jaffna, they are champions last three years and the players, but our boys played really good cricket. Of course, we haven't played Dushmantha today because he was injured and Isuru Udana also got injured and I finished Mujeeb in 10-11 overs but I believed in myself.”

“Everyday I try to do the basic things. That's my weapon. I got a lot of wickets with my wrong'un and I back it. I think Isuru is also out of the tournament. I don't know, we played a lot of back-to-back games. We can't play cricket like that and I hope next time they will schedule it little better," Hasaranga concluded.     

Hasaranga won the Player of the Match award for taking six wickets for just nine runs. In this ongoing tournament so far, Haris has scored 180 runs in five matches, including two fifties. Haris is also a part of Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup campaign. With this win, they will now face Galle Titans (GT) in qualifier two while for the first time, JK got knocked out of this tournament.
