On 18 May 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL in Hyderabad. Before this clash, RCB were in fifth position with 12 points in 12 games. While SRH were in the last position with eight points in 12 games. RCB were looking for a win to strengthen their qualification chances for the playoffs.

Speaking of the match, Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl first. For SRH, Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi came out to open. But, both of them went back to the dugout after 4.3 overs as SRH were 28 runs for two wickets. Then, Heinrich Klaasen came out to bat at number four. This wicketkeeper batter has been very consistent throughout the season.

Before this clash, Klassen scored 326 runs, at an average of 46.57 and a strike rate of 172.48 in 10 matches. He notched up two fifties also. In the last game against Gujarat Titans, he was the lone warrior as Klaasen smashed 64 runs off 44 balls, including four fours and three sixes. So, fans were expecting another top contribution from him in this clash. However, he did not disappoint the home crowd as Klaasen smashed his maiden IPL ton off just 49 balls.

Finally, he got out on 104 runs off 51 balls, including eight fours and six sixes. His knock played a crucial role as SRH posted 186 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. After the knock, he said: “Pretty special feeling, fantastic crowd, glad I got it at home. Wicket's slower than it has been in the season so far. I'm trying to keep my head and hands dead still, sometimes I search the ball with my hands and miss it. I'd love to say we are above par but they've got a great lineup. We need to get the big wickets upfront and we'll be through.”
