Star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is restricted to the longest format of the game in international cricket, has finally opened up on his Asia Cup 2025 snub in an exclusive interview with Mashable India.

For the unversed, Shubman Gill has been promoted as the new vice-captain of the Indian T20I team, and he has been opening the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma in the T20I XI ahead of the much-awaited ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

While Jaiswal has scored 723 runs in 23 T20Is at a strike rate of 164.31 and an average of 36.15, with a century and five half-centuries, he failed to find a spot in the main squad, while he made it to the standby list.

“I don’t think about. It’s all in the hands of selectors. The decisions are taken according to the team combination. I will do whatever I can,” said Yashasvi during a conversation with Mashable India.

“When my time comes, things will fall into place. I just want to keep working on myself and keep working hard,” he added.

While Jaiswal played only one ODI for Team India, he has been the mainstay in the Indian Test team. In Test cricket, he has amassed 2209 runs in only 24 matches at an average of 50.20 with six hundreds and 12 fifties.

Meanwhile, the former India opener and commentator Aakash Chopra has opined on Jasiwal not getting chances in the white-ball formats, adding that almost seems like an injustice to see the opener restricted to only one format.

“When you see Yashasvi, it seems like he is a three-format player. However, currently, he is playing only one format, and it seems like a travesty. It seems almost an injustice,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“The truth for now is that he will play the two Tests against the West Indies, and I am pretty sure he will score runs as well because he is that kind of a player. I think he will now get a chance to travel with the ODI team. When the three-match series against Australia starts, he will be there,” he added.
