Australian women’s team star keeper-batter Alyssa Healy has picked Australia’s strongest WTC Final Playing XI as they are all set to take on the South African side, led by Temba Bavuma, at the home of cricket, Lord’s, starting on June 11.
Speaking on a LiSTNR podcast, Healy has picked a very strong squad. However, with the CA selectors going ahead with the 15-man squad, Healy had a tough task of omitting four players to pick the top XI.
Healy went ahead with the star all-rounder Cameron Green, who is making a comeback after a long time. On the other hand, she had to drop Sam Konstas while Marnus Labuschagne will open the innings with Usman Khawaja. Moreover, she axed Scott Boland, Matthew Kuhnemann and Josh Inglis.
“And I’m looking at this squad thinking: how do you fit that 15 into the 11, and which way do you go? Because there are a lot of different options to consider. I think you’ve got to play Cam Green. So what does that do to your lineup? Well, someone is going to have to make way. I think Konstas is going to sit on the sidelines, and Boland is probably the other one to miss out. So I’m just narrowing it down to the four who probably won’t play: Boland, Kuhnemann, Inglis, and Konstas,” Healy said.
“Okay, where does that leave me? Yeah, fair. I think that means you’ve gone with the safe option there. So that means it’s going to be Khawaja opening with Marnus. I’ll go Marnus and Steve Smith at three, then Cam Green at four, Travis Head at five, Beau Webster at six, and Alex Carey at seven. And then the bowlers: Cummins, Starc, Lyon, and Hazlewood,” Healy concluded.
Alyssa Healy’s Australia WTC 2025 Final XI:
Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
