New Zealand and England squared off in the final ODI of the four-match series at Lords. The Three Lions opted to bat first after winning the toss. England suffered an early blow when they lost Jonny Bairstow after he made 13 off 16 balls. Joe Root came in at number three and hit 29 off 40 balls with two fours and one six. Root’s stay was short-lived as he was castled by Rachin Ravindra.

It was not the best day for Harry Brook with the bat as he was caught by Glenn Philips off Ravindra for just 10 off 15 balls. Jos Buttler came and tried to steer the game in England’s favour but he had to walk back after making 36 off 31 balls with three fours and one six. On the other hand, while wickets were falling around him, David Malan cracked a superlative 127 off 114 balls with 14 fours and three sixes.

Moeen Ali picked up 4-50 against New Zealand for England

His amazing batting helped England get to 311-9 in their 50 overs. Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali and David Willey made starts but could not convert them and get a big score. Ravindra picked up 4-60 in his 10 overs. Matt Henry and Daryl Mitchell picked up two wickets each in their respective spells. The Three Lions somehow made their way to a competitive total.

In the second innings,  The New Zealand batters were not up to the task as the England bowlers just blew them away. Moeen broke the New Zealand batting lineup as he took 4-50 in his ten overs spell.  Curran, Livingstone, Willey and Brydon Carse picked up a wicket each in their respective spells.

The Three Lions lost the first ODI but came back strongly to win the others and take the four-match ODI series 3-1. This is a great sign for England cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup in India. The Three Lions last won the World Cup in 2019 and are primed for a title defence in the sub-continent.
