As per several reports, former India skipper Rahul Dravid is likely to take over as India coach from Ravi Shastri, who will step down after the International T20 Cup. Dravid’s name as doing rounds ever since he coached India on the Sri Lanka tour. The veteran though played down his chances of taking over on a full-time basis saying it takes a lot of commitment to become a full-time India coach. A BCCI source confirmed that Dravid has agreed to take over the reins of India team as a coach.

“Yes, Rahul has agreed to coach the Indian team till the 2023 World Cup. Initially, he was reluctant but it is understood that president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had a meeting with Rahul on the sidelines of the IPL final where they were able to convince him,” a BCCI official told, according to Crictracker. “It won’t be an interim role,” he added.

Reacting to the reports of Dravid becoming the next India coach, former England captain Michael Vaughan sent out a warning to the other teams. Vaughan tweeted, "If it's true Rahul Dravid is to be the next Indian coach I think the rest of the world better beware... !"

Dravid has often been credited for building up the strong bench strength for India. He has been previously associated with the India A team and currently works as National Cricket Academy head where he grooms the youngsters. Dravid’s presence in the dressing room will do a world of good to team India. The news of Dravid becoming the India coach has been cheered by the cricket fraternity.

Earlier, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer sarcastically credited Shardul Thakur for Dravid’s appointment. "Till yesterday news reports were saying Rahul Dravid was going to stay at the NCA. Yet early morning news broke of him becoming India coach. So what happened around midnight? My best guess is Lord Shardul blew candles on his birthday cake wishing to be coached by Rahul bhai," wrote Jaffer.
