Rohit Sharma is currently in isolation after catching COVID -19 during the warm-up game in Leicester on June 25. With only a few days left at the start of the fifth Test between England and India, he might miss out. According to the COVID -19 protocols, a player needs to isolate for at least five days to get back on the field. This means that Sharma is most likely to miss out as the team would leave early.

In the statement released by the Indian Cricket Board, it was said that the Mumbai player would be tested again on June 26. Currently, there is no update on the re-testing results. This means that he can be assumed to be tested positive again for the deadly disease.

"Team India captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team. An RT-PCR test will be conducted on Sunday to ascertain his CT value," a statement from Indian Cricket Board read.

Earlier in the day, ESPNcricinfo reported that Mayank Agarwal has flown to the United Kingdom as a cover for the India skipper. He won't be isolating and will join the team straightaway. The right-hander played his last Test against Sri Lanka early this year. He could only muster 59 runs in two games. After this, he played for Punjab in the Indian T20 League 2022 and managed only 195 runs in 13 games.

His struggles continued for Karnataka in the quarterfinal game against Uttar Pradesh. The Punjab skipper could only score 32 runs in two innings. This is the reason the fans have trolled the selection committee for opting Mayank Agarwal ahead of Shikhar Dhawan. They feel that in the absence of KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan could have been considered. Notably, Dhawan hasn't played four-day cricket in the last few years. But, the fans feel that the left-hander has a good record in the European Country.
