The match saw a packed crowd eager to witness Kohli’s return to domestic cricket after 12 years, but Sangwan had other plans. The right-arm pacer bowled a superb in-swinging delivery that shattered Kohli’s stumps, cutting short the star batter’s innings. His passionate celebration, joined by his ecstatic teammates, reflected the magnitude of the moment.

A rising star in Indian domestic cricket

Sangwan's cricketing journey has been different. Born in 1995, in Najafgarh, Delhi, he initially played for the Delhi U-19 team and later made his senior debut for Railways during the 2019-20 season.

Throughout the years, he has steadily developed a domestic cricket career with 23 first-class matches, 17 List A games, and seven T20s with a total of 103 wickets across all formats. He has been quite impressive this season in the Ranji Trophy, already bagging 16 wickets, which even includes the prized scalp of Kohli.

What makes Sangwan's story even more inspiring is his unconventional background. Before establishing himself in cricket, he used to work as a ticket collector at New Delhi railway station. Despite this, he remained committed to his cricketing ambitions, consistently delivering strong performances.

His ability to dismiss big players is not a new thing either, as he took a five-wicket haul in the second innings of his debut season against Mumbai when Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw were in top form.

A significant influence on Sangwan’s career has been Australian bowling legend Glenn McGrath. In 2019, he attended a short training camp at the MRF Pace Foundation, where McGrath mentored him. Sangwan recalls McGrath’s valuable advice: “I take inspiration from Glenn McGrath. He told me one thing – ‘when in trouble, go to the basics.’ That advice has stayed with me.”

With his ability to bowl with discipline and pick up crucial wickets, Sangwan is emerging as a promising fast bowler in Indian domestic cricket. His consistent performances, strong work ethic, and determination indicate that he could be a player to watch in the coming years.
