Which is the most valuable Indian T20 League franchise of 2022?

The Indian T20 league is unarguably the biggest T20 league in the world. It acts as a source of income for several people. Besides, the brand value of this league has always been one of the major talking points among the fans. Thus, it goes without saying that the teams playing in the cash-rich league would have a high value as well.

According to a report by Forbes, the Mumbai-based franchise are the most valuable Indian T20 league team for 2022. They have a value of $1.3 billion. Following them are the Chennai-based franchise, which have a value of $1.15 billion. Besides, no other franchise have been to replicate the success of these two teams.

While Mumbai has won five trophies, Chennai have won four. It is to be noted that the Rohit Sharma-led side are reportedly the most valuable Indian T20 league franchise of this year despite being below-par Indian T20 league 2022. They have lost their first eight games of this edition, and are languishing at the bottom of the points table.

As for the Chennai-based franchise, they have only won two out of their eight games of the 2022 edition so far. Thus, despite not being at their best this season, Mumbai and Chennai are still the first and second-most valuable Indian T20 league teams in 2022 respectively. When it comes to the value of the other teams, Kolkata ($1.1 billion) and Lucknow ($1.075 billion) are next.

Delhi ($1.035 billion), Bangalore ($1.025 billion), Rajasthan ($1 billion), Hyderabad ($970 million), Punjab ($925 million) and Gujarat ($850 million) complete the list. Ajimon Francis, who happens to be the managing director at Brand Finance India (Which is a brand valuation and strategy consultancy), also stated that the Indian T20 league is the most prominent cricket league in the world.

“The Indian T20 league is the most prominent cricket league in the world in terms of attracting sponsors and media rights. A lot of credit goes to founders of the Indian T20 league, who took ideas from the NBA and European soccer leagues, and good governance by the BCCI with regards to clear visibility of team funding and ensuring the tournament continued during Covid,” said Ajimon Francis.
