When will Virat Kohli next play for Team India?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad. With this win, RCB’s veteran batter and former captain, Virat Kohli, also secured his first-ever IPL trophy. After 18 seasons of dedication, passion, and relentless effort, Kohli finally achieved the long-awaited triumph.

The moment was so emotional and special for him that he was seen in tears after the victory. But now that the IPL is over, the big question is: when will Virat Kohli next be seen in action for India?

Kohli recently made headlines by announcing his retirement from Test cricket during the IPL 2025. Earlier, after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup with India and being named Player of the Match in the final, he had retired from T20Is as well. Then, on 12 May, Kohli announced that he would no longer play the longest format of the game, a decision that shocked Indian cricket fans.

After Rohit Sharma also retired from Test cricket, many expected Kohli to feature in the upcoming five-match Test series in England. But ahead of the squad announcement, Kohli officially confirmed his decision to step away from red-ball cricket.

Now, with Kohli available only for ODIs, his next appearance for Team India is likely to be in the three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, scheduled from 17 to 23 August 2025. The first two ODIs will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on 17 and 20 August, while the final ODI will be held on 23 August in Chattogram.

However, there are some reports that the Bangladesh tour might get cancelled, and then, Kohli is likely to be in action in Australia, where India will play three ODIs in Australia in October, and then host South Africa for a home ODI series in December. With the 2027 ODI World Cup in focus, these matches are expected to be crucial.

And given Kohli’s outstanding record in the 50-over format, his presence will be vital for India. Kohli is coming off an excellent IPL 2025 campaign, scoring 657 runs in 15 innings for RCB and finishing in the third spot in the Orange Cap race. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see him back in Indian colours, hoping he continues to deliver consistent performances with the bat.
