When will IPL 2025 resume?

The IPL 2025 was suspended yesterday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with immediate effect due to the ongoing war-like tensions between India and Pakistan.

The Board has officially confirmed that further updates regarding the revised schedule and venues will be announced after assessing the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

However, the BCCI is expected to explore all possible windows to complete the remaining 12 league matches and four knockout games.

Potential Windows for Resumption

Late May to Early June

One potential window is between late May and early June. The IPL 2025 final was originally scheduled for 25 May, while India’s first Test match in England is set to begin on 20 June. This provides a significant gap of nearly three weeks. If the situation stabilises and the conflict de-escalates, the BCCI could consider using this gap to resume and conclude the tournament.

Late August

According to a report by The Times of India, another possible window is the second half of August. India’s last Test in England ends on 4 August, and the team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series from 17 to 23 August.

However, that series is currently in doubt due to already strained relations between India and Bangladesh—even before the current tensions. Originally, this period was reserved for the Bangladesh tour and the Asia Cup 2025.

But if those events are postponed or cancelled, the BCCI may consider using this window for IPL 2025. Two major challenges for this slot include the Indian monsoon season and limited availability of overseas players due to other international series and global T20 leagues.

September

This appears to be the most feasible option. India’s international calendar currently has a gap in September, which was originally meant for the Asia Cup 2025. Given the ongoing regional tensions, the Asia Cup is now highly unlikely to take place.

This makes September a strong candidate for the resumption of IPL 2025. The BCCI could also consider relocating the remaining matches to neutral venues like the UAE or South Africa, depending on the situation in India at the time.
