India strengthened their position at No. 3 in the WTC standings with a seven-wicket win in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, October 14, drastically reducing the gap on second-placed Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma departed from the game's longest format after his side failed to reach the WTC final earlier this year. Shubman Gill was named India's new Test captain prior to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

He began his term with a 2-2 series draw in the five-Test tour of England. This was viewed as a positive outcome, particularly for a team in transition following the retirements of veterans such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit.

India to tour Australia for white-ball series after defeating West Indies at home in Test series

In a few days, the 26-year-old will make his ODI captaincy debut, this time against Australia in a three-match bilateral series.

The attention, however, will be on two of India's batting mainstays, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will make their competitive return after a five-month absence. Both Rohit and Kohli will be looking to score big. Following Australia, they will play South Africa in front of their home crowd in a three-match bilateral ODI series.
