What happened on Day 3 of England vs India, 3rd Test? All you need to know

Day Three of the ongoing Lord’s Test between England and India delivered high-voltage action, with both teams continuing to go toe-to-toe. The day ended in drama, tension, and even a bit of controversy.

India started the day at 145/3, trailing by 242 runs. Unbeaten overnight batters KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant resumed the innings with patience and confidence. Together, they built a solid 141-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Just before lunch, England skipper Ben Stokes produced a moment of brilliance. Pant, batting on 74 off 112 balls, looked for a quick single but was run out by a stunning direct hit from Stokes.

Rahul carried on calmly and reached his second Test century at Lord’s, scoring 100 off 177 balls. But soon after reaching the milestone, he was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir, leaving India at 254/5.

Then, Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 72 runs for the sixth wicket. Reddy fought hard for his 30 before falling to a brilliant delivery from Stokes.

Washington Sundar joined Jadeja and built another 50-run partnership. Jadeja scored a gritty 72, and India reached 376/7, just 11 runs behind England’s first-innings total.

However, India’s lower order could not stretch the lead. The last three wickets fell quickly, and the visitors were bowled out for exactly 387, tying England’s first-innings score.

For England, Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets. Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes took two wickets each, while Brydon Carse and Shoaib Bashir chipped in with one each.

Crawley Sparks Controversy in Final Over

England came out to bat with two overs left in the day. However, Zak Crawley ensured they played only one over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Crawley repeatedly called for physios and pointed out distractions in the crowd, seemingly to delay play.

The tactic worked. England ended the day at 2/0, without losing a wicket. But it didn’t go unnoticed. Indian players were upset and got involved in a heated exchange with Crawley. Some even made sarcastic gestures towards the England opener as tempers flared.

With emotions running high, Day Four promises to be intense. India’s bowlers are expected to come out fired up in the morning session. Meanwhile, England may look to survive early pressure and score quickly later in the day.
