India began Day 2 of the ongoing Manchester Test with an early blow. Overnight batters Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur resumed the innings, but Jadeja fell quickly. Jofra Archer dismissed him for 20.

Washington Sundar then joined Shardul, and the pair added 48 runs for the sixth wicket. India crossed the 300-run mark during this stand. However, Shardul was eventually dismissed for 41 off 88 balls.

Just when it looked like India’s innings would wrap up quickly, Rishabh Pant left everyone stunned. Despite reports suggesting a six-week rest due to injury, Pant walked out to bat. Before play began, he had entered the stadium wearing protective boots, and it seemed highly unlikely he would play any further role in the match.

But in a courageous act, Pant hobbled out to the middle. He had retired hurt on Day 1 after scoring 37. Now, he returned and showed immense grit and bravery. He not only resumed his innings but went on to complete his fifty. Pant scored 54 off 75 balls before Archer bowled a beauty that sent his off stump cartwheeled.

Sundar contributed with a patient 27 off 90 balls. However, India’s tail didn’t offer much resistance. The team was bowled out for 358 in 114.1 overs.

Ben Stokes was the pick of the bowlers for England. The skipper claimed a five-wicket haul. Archer supported well with three wickets, while Liam Dawson and Chris Woakes took one each.

Duckett and Crawley left India’s bowlers clueless

When England came out to bat, the spotlight was on India’s bowlers and how they would use the new ball. Unfortunately, they were unable to make an impact. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley gave England a flying start.

India's bowlers struggled to find movement or trouble the batters. The English openers put on 166 runs in just 32 overs for the first wicket. Crawley looked set for a century but was dismissed for 94 off 100 balls by debutant Anshul Kamboj, who provided India a much-needed breakthrough.

Duckett continued alongside Ollie Pope and scored freely before being dismissed for 84 off 113 balls. By stumps, Pope and Joe Root were unbeaten, and England ended the day at a strong 225/2, trailing India by just 133 runs with eight wickets in hand.
