England and West Indies played out a draw in the first Test of England’s tour to the West Indies. The West Indian duo of Nkrumah Bonner and Jason Holder grind themselves to draw the match for their team on the last day.

After England scored 311 and 349 runs in their two innings, they set a target of 286 runs for the West Indies. West Indies were 4 down for 67 runs at the start of the last session. The partnership of Nkruma Bonner (38 of 158 deliveries) and Jason Holder (37 of 101 deliveries) took over from there and dug themselves in to bat the day out and draw the match.

While the match could have been declared a draw a lot earlier, the visitors took it to the last over. This is what has offended the former West Indian all-rounder, Carlos Brathwaite. According to him, if he would have been present as a senior player in the Caribbean dressing room, he would have felt disrespected. The point that Brathwaite wanted to make was that England took the West Indians too lightly and took the test to the last five balls, when six wickets were still in hand for West Indies.

Brathwaite was heard saying on BT Sport – “Would England have done that if it were an Ashes Test? Would they have done that against India, New Zealand, Pakistan? I think the answer is no, so why against us”.

Brathwaite is of the opinion that the West Indians need to show England that they are better than what England thinks of them. The second test of the series will take place at Bridgetown form the 16th of March.
