Cricket West Indies (CWI) selectors have named the five-match series T20I squad, led by Shai Hope, for the upcoming Australia series, scheduled to start on Sunday, July 20, at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
Two newcomers, Jewel Andrew and Jediah Blades, have earned their maiden T20I call-ups. While Andrew is known for his exceptional batting skills against spinners, the left-arm seamer impressed everyone as an ODI powerplay bowler, having made his ODI debut in December 2024.
Notably, Hope will continue to captain the team that also has experienced players like Andre Russell, Jason Holder, and Rovman Powell. Importantly, Russell, who will announce his international retirement, will only play the first two T20Is.
West Indies head coach Darren Sammy highlighted the importance of the five-match T20I series as the national side would be using the series as the preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka.
“Our goals and strategic plans are aligned to winning the T20 World Cup in 2026. We have continuity in the squad from the previous series and as a unit we will continue to fine tune our style and brand ahead of the World Cup,” Sammy stated.
“Our previous two T20 series at home we were on the wrong end of the results but starting against Australia, we want to regain our form at home as we build momentum into next year’s World Cup with our exciting and dynamic group of players,” he added.
