Cricket West Indies (CWI) have announced the squad for their upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan on Friday (November 26). The series will comprise three ODIs and as many T20Is starting from December 13. The CWI selectors have named quite a few uncapped players in both formats. Justin Greaves, Shamarh Brooks are part of the ODI squad, while Gudakesh Motie and Odean Smith are included in the T20 squad. Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons are not part of the squads.

Left-arm bowling all-rounder Dominic Drakes is also one of the players included in the shortest format. Drakes was also part of the West Indies team in the 20-20 World Cup as a net bowler.

Meanwhile, Moite and Smith were part of the showpiece event as a travelling reserve and net bowler respectively. CWI selection head Roger Harper said the uncapped players deserved the opportunity in the senior team given the consistent performances they have delivered in domestic cricket.

“There are a number of talented newcomers in each format that will have the opportunity to show what they are capable of at the international level. Justin Greaves is a very talented player, had a good CG Insurance Supre50 tournament, and performed well in the President’s XI match against Ireland in 2020,” Harper said in a statement.

Harper further opined that the ODI series is important to get vital points in the ICC ODI Super League standings. “The Odis in Pakistan are part of the ICC ODI Super League where points gained work towards qualification for the ICC World Cup 2023. So these ODI’s are very important to us and are being treated as such.”

This will be the fourth series for West Indies in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. The Caribbean team are currently ranked eighth, behind Pakistan who are placed seventh.
