The 17th match of the ongoing IPL took place in Chennai on 12 April 2023. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in front of the home crowds. For RR, Trent Boult had a good start to this year’s tournament. In the first three matches, he picked up five wickets.

In the last match, Boult picked up three wickets for 29 runs. So, fans were waiting to see how CSK batters face the in-form Kiwi pacer. But, ahead of the match, it got confirmed that Trent Boult is going to miss the CSK clash due to a niggle. At the toss, RR skipper, Sanju Samson confirmed that.

Speaking of the match, CSK won the toss and asked RR to bat first. Samson said: "We would have liked to bowl first too. We have started well but we need to continue the momentum. We have experience and the youngsters to do that. It has always been a pleasure to come to Chepauk and play here. Boulty misses out due to a small niggle and we have a couple of changes, you will come to know that. It's difficult to keep track with the sub rule." Listening to that, fans went crazy and shared their views on social media.
However, some fans also blamed the match has been fixed by CSK to make the 200th match memorable for MS Dhoni as the skipper of CSK. At the toss, Dhoni said: We will bowl first. It maybe slightly on the slower side, different from the first game. Dew may play a role and it might get better in the second innings. (On his 200th game as CSK captain in the IPL) It feels good and also I feel the crowd has been fantastic. Also the fact that we started in the old stadium, it was very hot and humid. But now it feels like we’re playing in Switzerland. It’s good to play.”
