Perhaps, not a lot of fans would have expected him to notch his century in a T20 international.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had opted to rest and Virat Kohli opened the innings with KL Rahul.  Both made a superb start and the duo added 119 runs for the opening wicket in just 12.4 overs. KL Rahul got out in the 13th over but Virat Kohli went on to play right till the end.

The former Indian skipper was dropped in the 7th over and he made full use of that opportunity. Kohli played the first few overs cautiously before changing his gears and hitting boundaries all around the ground. Be it spinners or pacers, he didn’t spare anyone.

Virat Kohli went on to score an unbeaten knock of 122 runs in 61 deliveries. Prior to the start of the 18th over, Kohli was at 90 off 51 deliveries. He then hit Fareed Ahmed for a four on the first ball of the over and reached his century by hitting a six on the very next ball. He took off the helmet and bow down to celebrate the ton. There wasn’t any animated celebration from the Indian skipper. The batting maestro raised his bat around and kissed his ring. Here’s a look at a glimpse of that special moment.

Thanks to Virat Kohli’s sensational ton, India notched a mammoth score of 212 runs on the board at the end of the first innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through Afghanistan’s batting unit in the second innings.

He picked a five-for during his four-over spell and conceded only 4 runs. Besides, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepak Hooda also picked one wicket each as India bundled out Afghanistan for just 111 runs in the second innings, thereby winning the game by 101 runs.
