Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar was involved in a jovial conversation with the Indian keeper-batter Sanju Samson ahead of the India vs Bangladesh Super Four clash on Wednesday, September 24, in Dubai.

Speaking to Samson ahead of the match, Manjrekar asked if the keeper-batter is comfortable batting at any other position than the opening slot. Notably, Samson has achieved success as an opening batter in the shortest format of the game.

As an opening batter, since January 2024, Samson has scored 487 runs in 18 T20Is, including three centuries, at an average of 32.46 and a strike rate of 170. However, he has been demoted to No.5 since the inclusion of Shubman Gill, the new vice-captain, in the Indian T20I squad.

Let’s take a look at the conversation between Sanjay Manjrekar & Sanju Samson on Sony Sports Network:

Manjrekar: Enough of the easy questions. One final question. You have got three T20I hundreds, all three of them coming in the opening spot. That's it.

Samson: I thought it was a question.

Manjrekar: Which is the position you're most comfortable in?

Samson: Yeah, recently, our Lalettan - Mohanlal, the cinema actor from Kerala, he got a very big award from the country. He has been acting over the last 30-40 years. I have also been playing for my country for the last 10 years. So, I can't say I can only do a hero role. I need to a villain, I need to be a joker. I need to play around. I can't say that I have scored runs as an opener and I am really good at top 3. let me try this also. Why can't I be a good villain?

“Sanju Mohanlal Samson," Samson concluded.

It’s worth noting that Samson’s comments went viral on social media platforms, as his remarks came a day after legendary, versatile Malayalam actor Mohanlal received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
