Ruturaj Gaikwad received acclaim both on and off the field following Maharashtra's dominant 144-run victory over Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy.

While the batter was technically selected Player of the Match for his constant effort in both innings, he chose to share the honor with teammate Prithvi Shaw, whose spectacular double century was essential in the victory.

Gaikwad anchored Maharashtra's first innings with a patient 116, enabling the team to a high total. He then went on to pitch an undefeated 36 in the second inning to keep the club in control. 

However, it was Prithvi Shaw's spectacular 222 in the second innings that turned the match around and put Maharashtra beyond Chandigarh's reach.

Shaw smashed the third fastest Ranji Trophy century and fastest in Ranji Trophy Elite group. His double ton came off just 141 balls and he broke his own record of 174-ball double century. 

The right-hander's hit was not just a display of dominance, but also a reminder of his exceptional natural talent. His century set the tone for Maharashtra's eventual victory, as Chandigarh crumbled under scoreboard pressure on the last day.

Gaikwad called Shaw up to share the Player of the Match award with him after the game, which was a touching gesture. Fans praised the Maharashtra Cricket Association's social media post of the moment for its sense of respect and unity.

Shaw made a strong recovery in this inning. He began the season with a duck against Kerala, but he soon settled into a groove with a fifty in the following innings, which was followed by this scorching double century. He hadn't scored a century in first-class cricket for almost 20 months before the hit.
