Australia's Test skipper Pat Cummins is known to wield his willow when needed. He has two half-centuries to his name in the longest form of the game. The right-arm pacer bats down the order, but looks like a frontline batter while batting. On the second day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia, the 29-year-old showcased some of his skills with the bat.

The right-hand batter scored 28 off just 18 balls including one four and three sixes. During the innings, one of his sixes landed outside the Galle International Stadium. The ball landed in the street outside of the stadium. Leg spinner Jaffrey Vandersay was bowling at the time and the scorecard read 307/8. The visitors led by 95 runs and increased it to 101.

Talking about the game, the team ended Day Two on 313/8. The third day started with the Aussies leading by 101 runs. On the next day, they lost the last two wickets quickly after adding just eight runs to their total. Cummins was cleaned up by an inswinging yorker from Asitha Fernando. In reply, the hosts couldn't post a big total to pose a challenge in the fourth innings.

Lankans were bundled for 113, Travis Head and Nathan Lyon taking four wickets each while Mitchell Swepson taking two. Lyon backed his fifer in the first innings with a four-fer in the second. However, the skipper didn't bowl in the second innings as the wicket, which was a dust bowl, was assisting the spinners.

The Cummins-led side then needed only five runs to win the game. David Warner hit a four and a six to finish the game in the first over of the second innings. Thus, it was a comprehensive victory for the Aussies, to say the least. With this, they have got a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and 12 valuable points for the win. They now have 84 points in just nine games with a win percentage of 77.78 which will determine the first of the two finalists.
