Although, the Netherlands lost their third match against Sri Lanka by 16 runs. It eventually dropped its fortune as a result of the match between UAE and Namibia.

UAE’s win automatically made things straight for the qualification of the Netherlands into the main round of the tournament. Now, the Netherlands will be placed in Group 2 with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa along with the top from the Group A of Round 1.

Talking about the campaign of the Netherlands so far, they have won two out of three matches in Round 1 before losing the last clash against the Lankan tigers. The Dutch team finished in the second spot in the points table of Group A during the qualifying round of the tournament.

Furthermore, discussing about the third match of the Netherlands in Round 1, Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka decided to bat first after winning the toss. Riding on the brilliant knock of 79 runs off just 44 balls from Kusal Mendia, Sri Lanka posted a total of 162 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

While chasing the target, Max O’Dowd played a vital knock of 71 runs off 53 balls with six boundaries and three sixes to his name. Although, his efforts went in vain as the Netherlands fell short of the target with a score of 146 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Eventually, Sri Lanka won the match by a margin of 16 runs. Sri Lanka has ended up being the number one team in Group A of Round 1. They will join Afghanistan, England, New Zealand, and Australia in the Group 1 of the super-12 round.
