Cricket is a game that can be unfair to players on quite a few occasions. There have been many instances of umpires given wrong decisions and those have had an impact on the outcome of the game. Although, those have been minimized after the introduction of the Decision Review System (DRS). However, there are still other unlucky ways for a batter to get out in the game as well.

For example, a batter can get run-out at the non-striker's end after the ball deflects the bowler's hand. However, on Day One of the Third Test between England and New Zealand, Henry Nicholls got out in a bizarre fashion. Apparently, Nicholls tried to hit an on-drive against Jack Leach. The left-hander middled the ball and it would have gone for four.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the ball hit the middle of the bat of Daryl Mitchell, who was on the non-striking end. The ball deflected off Mitchell's bat and went straight to Alex Lees. The incident happened at the stroke of tea with the visitors scoring 123/4.

With this, one of the slowest innings of Test cricket came to a close. Apparently, the Kiwi batted for 99 balls and scored 19 runs including only one four. Talking about the game, the World Test Championship 2021 winners won the toss and chose to bat first. They had a poor start as Tom Latham was caught at first slip by Joe Root off Stuart Broad.

Will Young was going well for his 20 before he was trapped lbw by Leach. Skipper Kane Williamson, who played the game after recovering from COVID -19 was going well by scoring 31 before he was caught behind by Ben Foakes off Broad. With this wicket, Broad is just two wickets away from 550 scalps in the longest format.

Jamie Overton had a dream debut as he cleaned up Devon Conway. Mitchell and Tom Blundell have stitched an unbeaten partnership of 102 runs after the team was once struggling at 123/5.
