India Women have scripted history in Mumbai as they registered their maiden Test win against Australia. The two have met 10 times in the past in the longer format, with Australia managing to win four times. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side quickly wrapped up the Australian innings on Day 4 and chased down a target of 75 runs in 18.4 overs to seal a comprehensive 8-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium.

Captain Kaur was not at her best with the bat as she got dismissed for a duck in the first innings. However, it was her impressive spell of two crucial wickets just before stumps on Day 3 that turned the match around. Australia maintained their lead in the second innings when Tahlia McGrath and the captain Alyssa Healy were at the crease. The two were looking to sign off the day but Kaur brought herself into the attack and got rid of McGrath, who scored 73 off 177 deliveries.

She broke the 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket and continued troubling Healy. Meanwhile, there was a heated exchange between the captains of the two teams after Healy hit the 79.2 delivery straight towards Kaur. The Aussie batter was stationed inside the crease but Kaur quickly threw the ball towards the striker's end, almost directly into her body.

Healy defended the ball with her bat and it got deflected to the third-man boundary. The India skipper appealed for obstructing the field, but the umpire signaled four runs in overthrows. Kaur got frustrated and she got involved in a verbal altercation with Healy

According to MCC’s law 37.1, “Either batter is out Obstructing the field if, he/she wilfully attempts to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action. A batter shall not be out Obstructing the field if the obstruction or distraction is accidental, or the obstruction is in order to avoid injury, or in the case of the striker, he/she makes a second or subsequent strike to guard his/her wicket lawfully.”

However, Kaur won the battle as she dismissed Healy on the very next ball. The right-handed batter made a premeditated sweep and it got hit on her pads. She asked for a review but the decision was upheld by the third umpire. This brought two new batters to the crease and allowed the Women in Blue to gain the upper hand.
