The incident occurred in the final over of the Stars' innings, as Zampa prepared to bowl to Mackenzie Harvey. Midway through his followthrough, Zampa came to a halt and whipped off the bails at the bowler's end, appealing for a run-out.

While Rogers was well outside his crease, the third umpire ruled that Zampa had completed his action and declared the batsman not out. Zampa appeared to be fairly confident in his appeal, but he was disappointed by the decision.

Earlier, in another controversial incident, many people questioned the legality of a catch made by Australia's Michael Neser during a Big Bash League match between the Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Sixers in Brisbane. Neser caught Jordan Silk on the boundary rope, released the ball after jumping over the rope, threw it back into play in mid-air, and collected the loose ball after crossing into the field.

The Marylebone Cricket Club has now confirmed its decision to approve Michael Neser's catch, putting the debate to rest. The MCC directed users to its rules clarifying the laws in a tweet. "The key points are: 1) The FIRST contact must be inside the boundary, and 2) the fielder can't be touching the ball and the ground beyond the boundary at the same time," read the tweet.

As for the game between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades, the latter set a target of 142 for the Stars to chase down. Martin Guptil, Shaun Marsh, and Mackenzie Harvey all played short cameos to help their team get to a decent total. In reply, the Stars were restricted to a score of just 108 runs, handing the Renegades a 33-run victory.
