Want to enjoy remaining years of cricket career like a child”- MS Dhoni

Former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has stated that he wants to enjoy whatever time is left of his cricketing career like he used to do in his childhood. The 43-year-old Dhoni will be seen in action for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, after being retained by the franchise for INR 4 crores.

The former captain of India stated that he hoped to play cricket for some time to come. Due to his tendency to keep things under wraps and his announcement of his international retirement in 2019, the question of how long Dhoni will play for the Chennai Super Kings has been asked every time the Indian Premier League (IPL) season passes.

In the 2024 IPL, Dhoni had a few special but infrequent appearances with the bat. He was no longer captain of the five-time champions CSK, having handed the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

I just want to enjoy cricket- MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni was his best self as he made a rare public appearance for a business function. Having "never attended press conferences" since leaving international cricket, he said it was nice to see the assembled media "as demanding as ever" after a lengthy absence.

Additionally, the former captain of India stated that he hoped to play cricket for some time to come. Ahead of a new IPL season that begins next month, the star batsman-wicketkeeper had some answers on Wednesday in Mumbai for the launch of the "DHONI" app.

“As a cricketer, I always wanted to perform for the Indian team... Now I’ve been retired since 2019, so it’s been quite some time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is, (that) I just want to enjoy cricket for the last few years so that I will be able to play,” Dhoni said.

During IPL 2024, he moved down the order; he had brief but significant innings in each of the 14 games, hitting at 220.55 and scoring 161 runs. The Ranchi native, 43, stated that he now wishes to play the game like he did as a child.

“I want to enjoy it like I did as a child, when I was in school, when I lived in a colony. I want to play with the same kind of innocence. Easier said than done, but that’s what I have been trying to do,” he said.
