If reports are to be believed, former India cricketer VVS Laxman has refused the post of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head. The BCCI is keenly looking for a suitable candidate to take over the responsibility from Rahul Dravid, who is set to become the next India coach after the T20 International Cup.

BCCI wants someone who has contributed immensely to Indian cricket to take over the role of the next NCA head and VVS Laxman was an apt choice. However, the veteran denied the role, a source told Sports Tak.

While the reason for Laxman’s denial is not known, workload management could be one of the reasons. Laxman currently is the batting consultant for Bengal domestic cricket and the team mentor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The veteran is one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket having scored 8781 Test runs in 134 matches with 17 centuries.

Meanwhile, BCCI have invited the applications for the head coach. However, it seems a mere formality as BCCI has almost finalised on Rahul Dravid as India coach, with the veteran also agreeing to the role. Along with the application for head coach, BCCI have advertised for batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, and head sports science/medicine with National Academy (NCA).

The development comes after current coach Ravi Shastri and his allies expressed their wish to discontinue their roles after the T20 International Cup in UAE and Oman.
