The first ODI between India and England was setting up for a thrilling finish. A magnificent opening stand of 135 runs between Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow put England in a commanding position before the Indian bowlers made a roaring comeback and bowled out the visitors for 251. Leaving his fans in splits, Virender Sehwag trolled England for their disastrous batting collapse. Sehwag posted a meme of a Pakistani fan, who went viral in the 2019 World Cup after Pakistan's loss to India, with a caption " England going strong at 135/0 after 14.1 overs and then Lord Shardul , Prasidh Krishna and Bhuvi"

Chasing 318, England openers went berserk from ball one and knocked off the first 100 runs in the 12th over. The visitors were way ahead in the game and, at one point, needed less than 6 runs per over with all the 10 wickets in hand. That moment, many would have expected Eoin Morgan’s men to cruise to victory. However, the wicket of Jason Roy, who was dismissed by the debutant Prasidh Krishna, triggered a collapse and England were bowled out for 251, losing the match by 66 runs.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma got India off to a solid start. Even though Rohit fell for not much, Dhawan made the most of his opportunity and slammed a blistering 98. Virat Kohli too carried on his good run and stroked a fluent 56. Few quick wickets slightly derailed India’s inning but KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya's unbeaten century stand for the 6th wicket helped India post 317. The second ODI of the series will be played on March 26. England have not won an ODI series in India since 1984/85.
