Subsequently, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has come up with his prediction of the highest run-scorer of the tournament. He went on to back the Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to be the top run-getter during the marquee tournament in Australia.

“Babar Azam from Pakistan,” Sehwag was quoted as saying to CricBuzz.

“He has been extraordinary. Great fun to watch. There is a sense of calmness whenever Virat Kohli bats and you get something similar when watching Babar,” he added later.

Later on, the former veteran England skipper Michael Vaughan also happened to agree with the point made by Sehwag. Vaughan went on to say that being an opener, Babar has formed an amazing partnership and bond with star batter Mohammad Rizwan. So, this will surely help him to improve his number in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup.

“This year's T20 World Cup, I am going with Babar Azam. Brilliant player, Pakistan's opening batter. A great combination with Rizwan at the top of the order. So consistent, Babar Azam will score the most runs,” said the former England captain.

Notably, Babar Azam & co. will lock horns with the arch-rivals India in their tournament opener on the 23rd of October at MCG in Melbourne. Earlier, they faced the Indians in the Asia Cup 2022 losing the group match followed by a win in the super-4 round.
