The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently sacked Virat Kohli as ODI skipper and handed over the reins to Rohit Sharma. This created a massive controversy as Virat revealed that there was no prior communication by the board regarding the change of leadership. BCCI, on the other hand, maintained a stance that they requested Virat Kohli to stay as T20I captain if he wants to lead the ODI team as the board is not in favour of split captaincy in limited-overs games.

Now if recent reports are to be believed, the decision to sack Virat Kohli was not an instant decision as the BCCI was pondering over sacking Kohli for the last few months. As per a report in DNA, a source close to the development revealed that the board was planning to sack Kohli as he goes into 'incommunicado' mode after certain games and has no communication with the selection committee, which is why the BCCI was keen on removing him as ODI captain.

The source further added that Kohli's inability to win global events was another major concern for the board. The report further stated that the board is upset over Virat Kohli's comments in the press conference and is mulling over issuing a show-cause notice for the same.

Ahead of the departure for South Africa, Kohli addressed the media where he bluntly denied the claims made by BCCI about keeping Kohli informed about the captaincy saga. Kohli revealed he was informed about the same just 90 minutes before the announcement of the Test squad. He also revealed he had informed BCCI that he wants to give up the T20I captaincy but lead the teams in ODIs and Tests, and BCCI was fine with it.
