Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were among the many Indian cricketers who paid their tributes to the Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat. On Wednesday (December 8), General Rawat, his wife, and 11 others were killed in an Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper crash. The unfortunate turn of events unfolded near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.
After hearing the tragic news, several former and present Indian cricketers took to social media to pay tribute to General Rawat and other people who were killed in the crash. India’s Test skipper Kohli tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of CDS Bipin Rawat ji and other officials in a tragic helicopter crash. My deepest condolences to the friends & family members.”
India’s limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma also felt extremely sad by the passing away of General Rawat. “Extremely tragic… My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of CDS General Bipin Rawat and the 11 army personnel. We will always be grateful for your service towards our nation,” he tweeted.
Ravi Shastri, Mithali Raj, Suryakumar Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, and Jhulan Goswami also extended their condolences.
