With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their Test retirements ahead of the England tour, many Indian cricketing fans are eagerly waiting for the veteran duo to get back to the field. With the duo already retired from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024, they will not take part in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 as well.

However, fans have to wait until October to witness the veteran duo on the field as Team India’s next scheduled ODI series is against Australia Down Under, scheduled to start on October 19 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

According to the reports published on Dainik Jagran, Kohli and Rohit might bid adieu to international cricket after the conclusion of the three-match ODI series against Australia. Notably, the team management isn’t considering the duo for the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.

The report further mentioned that the duo has to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to be available for selection in the ODI team. Interestingly, Rohit and Kohli earlier took part in the Ranji Trophy after poor outings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"Team management is not considering both (Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma) in the strategy for the 2027 World Cup. Both may have to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to stay in the ODI team. In such a case, due to this condition, both might announce before the Australia series that it will be their last series," the Dainik Jagran report read.

Speaking about the Australia tour, India is scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is in the white-ball series. While the ODI series will start on Sunday, October 19, the T20I series will commence on Wednesday, October 29.
