With these reports surrounding social media and different websites, fans and former cricketers are offering support to the star Indian batter, hoping that the 36-year-old top-order batsman continues to play the format for one more stint.

Notably, Kohli has played 210 innings in Tests, scoring 9230 runs at an exceptional average of 46.85 with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten knock of 254.

It’s important to note that Kohli made his Test debut in 2011, and since then, he has emerged as Team India’s crucial batter at No.3 and No.4, winning games both home and away. However, this decision will put Team India in a spot of danger as India will tour England for a five-match Test series in the new World Test Championship Cycle, starting on June 20.

In an interesting turn of events, the BCCI officials have given Kohli an option to reconsider his decision, taking a few days' time to come up with the final decision. It would be interesting to see what Kohli thinks, and fans would be eagerly waiting for his ultimate call.

"He is still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team. We've requested him to take some time before making a final call," said a senior BCCI official on condition of anonymity.

With Virat Kohli considering retirement from this format, Team India will be having a completely new and young team as the new WTC cycle is lined up. It’s worth noting that Shubman Gill is deemed a new Test captain with Rohit Sharma hanging his boots from the format.
